We are coming together for a vigil. A vigil for Leelah, a vigil for a life that should have never ended in such a tragic way. She said, “Fix Society”.. well let’s show society that one life matters. This will be a short vigil but one that we feel must take place and one that will take a moment to educate, inform, and bring our community together to work towards a dream of one life. We may not have an instant fix but it’s time to make it better.
“The only way I will rest in peace is if one day transgender people aren’t treated the way I was, they’re treated like humans, with valid feelings and human rights. Gender needs to be taught about in schools, the earlier the better. My death needs to mean something. My death needs to be counted in the number of transgender people who commit suicide this year. I want someone to look at that number and say “that’s fucked up” and fix it. Fix society.” -Leelah
Leelah’s Mom once told her “God doesn’t make mistakes.”
SHE WAS RIGHT. Leelah was no “mistake.
Let’s come together not only to show her that she was not alone but every other person within the community of humanity that they matter.
